The X-Doria Defense Lux Cell Phone Case | Military Grade Protection for the Off-Road Enthusiast
Timing is everything. When I needed to upgrade to an iPhone 7, the stealth-like X-Doria Defense Lux mysteriously showed up on my desk, just calling for a review. My phone easily fit into the case, which is constructed from military grade machined metal and features an anodized aluminum outer frame and mechanical latch for simple snap on installation with no tools required. In other words, this iPhone was not going to fall out or pop out of the case at any given time. In fact, the company, which is based out of Santa Monica, CA, boasts that the product exceeds military standards for drops due to its shock absorbing inner rubber layer, bumper, and 1.5mm impact resistance polycarbonate shell. The Defense Lux iPhone Case is certified to survive a 6’6” (2m) drop on concrete, making it a solid choice for anyone working or playing in the outdoors. In addition, it has an oversized raised lip to protect the screen from drops and surface scratches.
The X-Doria Defense Lux showed up at the perfect time, as I was preparing to leave for a pretty epic road trip to test out some serious riding spots in Utah. The trip took me to Moab for Rally on the Rocks, in addition to other cool places like White Sand Wash, Coral Pink Sand Dunes, and outside of Bryce Canyon. I constantly had my iPhone out to take pictures, check GPS coordinates, or confirm to my friends and family that I was still alive. This phone and case experienced damp conditions, some pretty rough riding and rock climbing, winds, sand (lots of sand), and extreme heat of over 95 degrees F.
The X-Doria Defense Lux help up extremely well and proved my phone as promised. I didn't drop test the case, but felt confident that it would protect my phone if it came to that point. The case is solid construction and does have a bit of extra weight, but this is a fair trade for the protection it offers. In taking the phone out of the case at the end of the trip, I noticed that some sand had gotten in along the edges and bottom buttons (speaker and charging port) but it was minimal considering how much sand I was exposed to. Some additional water resistant features would be help fuel for future; however, all in all this was an excellent case well suited to the off-road industry.
